Screenshot Inbox
Documentation
Practical guides for setting up Screenshot Inbox and keeping screenshot clutter under control on your Mac.
Back to app directoryGetting started
Screenshot Inbox runs on macOS 14 or newer. Start by choosing the folders where screenshots usually pile up, such as Desktop, Downloads, or a project folder.
- Open Screenshot Inbox.
- Add one or more folders you want the app to watch.
- Review the screenshots that appear in the inbox.
- Rename, move, archive, or delete items as you clean them up.
Choosing folders
Add folders that regularly collect screenshots. Screenshot Inbox will look for likely screenshots in those places and show them in one focused list.
- Choose a folder from the folder setup screen.
- Confirm that Screenshot Inbox can access that folder.
- Repeat for any other folders you want to include.
Reviewing screenshots
Use the inbox to move through screenshots one at a time. The preview and details area help you decide whether to keep, rename, move, archive, or delete each item.
Finding text in screenshots
Screenshot Inbox can read text in screenshots on your Mac so you can search for words that appear inside an image, not just the file name.
- Let the app finish reading text from new screenshots.
- Type a word or phrase in search.
- Open a matching item to review or clean it up.
Cleaning up screenshots
When a screenshot no longer needs to stay where it is, choose the action that matches what you want to do next.
- Rename screenshots so they are easier to recognize later.
- Move screenshots into a better folder when they belong with a project.
- Archive screenshots you want to keep but do not need in the original folder.
- Delete screenshots you no longer need.
Troubleshooting
If screenshots do not appear, check that the folder is still included and that the files have names that clearly identify them as screenshots. If text search does not find a new screenshot immediately, give the app a moment to finish reading the image.
Platform notes
Screenshot Inbox is currently a Mac app. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, widgets, Shortcuts, and iCloud sync are not listed as current features.
